Are Schnipper's Chicken Tenders Really "Gluten-Free by Accident"?

I asked the cashier three times whether the tenders were gluten-free the first time I visited Schnipper's two years ago since they were incredible and almost too "gluten-like" that it had me quite concerned. Schnipper's is a family-owned and operated business serving all the best American classics in Times Square and Midtown East. This is not a dedicated gluten-free facility (although safe accommodation can be made), but one thing is for sure—Schnipper's coating is unlike anything you've ever tasted, gluten-free or not. It's all in the looks; see for yourself:

That's the best I can describe the variation of Schnipper's tenders from others, you just have to try it to see. And clearly I liked them enough to keep going back time and time again, but I also love them enough to write this post at 8:00 AM.

Paired with the juiciest chicken I've ever tasted, the buttermilk coating is light, crispy, and slightly gritty. I tend to lean towards a classic ranch dressing for dipping sauce, but there are many others available, including: blue cheese, honey mustard, chipotle ranch, buffalo, BBQ, mustard relish, and their own Schnipper's sauce.

You can find Schnipper's gluten-free menu here. Take my word for it—even if the kitchen isn't a designated gluten-free area, their product is worth asking the staff about and tasting this delicious bite. I, personally, have been here many times and have never had an issue as their staff is welcoming and understanding of all products that are "gluten-free by accident."

The tenders are the star of my show, but Schnipper's is known for their famous sloppy joe sandwich, which can also be made gluten-free (although noted by menu that there are trace amounts of malt vinegar, therefore likely causing problems for those Celiac-affected, but to each their own).

If you need an extra push, here are step-by-step instructions on how to eat a Schnipper's gluten-free tender, and see how lifechanging the experience can be:

Step 1: Open your sauce of choice

Step 2: Lather the tender in sauce, don't hold back
Step 3: Take a bite

Step 4: Give the flavors some good thought
Step 5: Be amazed

Step 6: Share with friends

Schnipper's is a great fast-food option if you're gluten-free and love a good out-of-the-box chicken tender. Bonus points because the Times Square location shares a wall with The New York Times so I send photos of it to everyone I know (journalism student lore). If you'd like to taste the best fried chicken... Go to Schnipper's and you won't be disappointed.
