Nami Nori: A Haven for Gluten-Free Sushi Lovers

Taste innovation at Nami Nori, a New York sanctuary where culinary excellence intertwines with dietary inclusivity in every roll. Open-style hand rolls served at a beautiful sushi bar surely tops off this 100% gluten-free experience.



I have always been a sushi lover; I was practically inhaling California rolls in preschool. There's just something about raw fish that really... pulls me in, you know? I'm kidding, of course, but honestly, the appeal is always there. You could ask if I wanted to get sushi for breakfast and I'll never say no. That's why finding a 100% GF sushi spot has always been on my wish list for the downstate life, and I feel like that's been accomplished here.

A typical experience at a non-GF sushi restaurant is: "Our sushi is gluten-free, but we cannot make our sauces gluten-free." Therefore I have — on multiple occasions — snuck coconut aminos in my bag every time we go out.

A place like Nami Nori is exactly what the gluten-free folk need in their life: fully gluten-free sushi that also tastes amazing. The quality and freshness of this spot was immaculate and has left me wanting more for almost a week.



We ordered the signature set and the classic set. The more intriguing part of the night was the serving-style of these pieces, which is staggered and makes for a "spread-out" light dinner. After ordering, you are prompted with each piece at a time, maybe one every 5-7 minutes, until you've reached the final piece to top off the set. You are able to see the chef in action as they create the open-face rolls directly in front of you, which adds to the overall experience of Nami Nori.




The classic set comes with an array of "basic" rolls that have their own twists to them. This includes: California, tuna & avocado, yellowtail scallion, salmon & cucumber, and spicy tuna.

On the flip side, the signature set delves into more specialized and unconventional flavors, pushing for culinary creativity. There is tuna poke with crispy shallots, "x.o. scallop" with tobiko and lemon zest, salmon serrano, cucumber black sesame, and my personal favorite, coconut shrimp with green curry, chive, and cilantro.

Nami Nori is truly a dream for those desiring safe gluten-free meals that also happen to be quite delicious. Finally, a sushi spot where I don't have to bring my own sauce!

Apart from savoring the food, I indulged in one or perhaps two of their cocktails known as the "cherry bomb," which featured crémant sparkling wine, cherry sage cordial, and soju.
