Dedicated gluten-free, delicious, and affordable?
You haven't lived until you try Sushi Counter. Seriously.
At this point, the West Village has become gluten-free heaven, and I'm not complaining. Wild, Senza Gluten, and now Sushi Counter? You'll know where to find me.
I came across the Sushi Counter on Find Me Gluten-Free when looking for another dedicated GF sushi spot, and the reviews were spot on (and a well deserved 4.9 star review on Google).
Fresh, Aussie-style rolls that are $5 each or 3/$12 ... can it get any better? Sushi Counter's grab-and-go vibe provides unbeatable convenience, serving up delicious sushi with speed and style.
Options include: Tempura shrimp, cooked tuna, miso eggplant, teriyaki chicken, spicy shrimp, and more. There's also miso soup available which is, of course, gluten-free.
There are so many traditional sushi fillings that GF folk are unable to enjoy, but Sushi Counter makes that possible.
Cooked Tuna Roll:
Being a true tuna lover, both cooked and raw, this roll offered a unique experience I hadn't encountered before. It had a subtle sweetness, balanced perfectly with the salty kick of soy sauce. This was a heavenly combination that left me feeling on cloud nine with every bite, and I'll surely make this a regular weekend visit for this reason.
Tempura Shrimp Roll:
I can't string the words together to explain the overwhelming joy I felt when trying this roll - but I can do my best. Tempura smells and looks delicious, and I envy all of my non-GF friends who order this every time we go out and it's on the menu. God bless Sushi Counter for making all of my gluten-free dreams come true.
This roll was crunchy, sweet, and hands down the best sushi I have ever had (no joke). I almost walked back down the street and bought myself three more. If there's anything you do while in New York, it's sitting on a bench while crying tears of joy and trying a Tempura Shrimp Roll from Sushi Counter.
Miso Eggplant Roll:
This roll was a revelation of flavor. Tender eggplant paired wonderfully with the savory miso, creating a exceptional blend of tastes. Each bite was a delightful balance of sweetness and umami, making it a must-try for Sushi Counter. Per usual, I am blown away; I love food and I love being gluten-free for this exact reason.
